3D printer head

The folks over at BBC recently went to a rapid prototyping lab somewhere in London and tried out the 3D scanning and printing technologies available at the lab. Using the host’s as the test subject, they managed to come up with a miniature version of his face. While 3D printers can used to print many things, this is the first time I’ve seen it being used to create a realistic replica of a man’s face.

If you’ve always wanted to know a 3D printer works, you can watch this informative video that details the whole process (in a simplified and easy to understand manner of course). From the scanning, processing, to the types of 3D printing available, it’s pretty informative and eye-opening especially for people who didn’t have a clue to what 3D printing was all about. Head over to the BBC website to watch the video report.
