In a surprise, Randy Moss has retired. Just a few days ago, his agent was talking about how Randy Moss was in great shape and that he was going to enter this season with a gigantic chip on his shoulder. Apparently, things changed when the Hall of Fame wide receiver didn’t get much interest in the free agent market.

Now Randy Moss and all the joy he brought to football fans is gone.

I ask the question: At the very top of his game, was Randy Moss the best wide receiver ever? I know Jerry Rice was great but if you needed a touchdown and you had just one play, would you really go with someone other than Randy Moss in his prime?

Stats-wise, Randy Moss is no slouch. His 153 receiving touchdowns is second all-time. He also finished his career with 954 catches and 14,858 yards. The best seasons of his career came in 2003 when he had 111 catches, 1,632 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings, and in 2007 when he had 98 catches for 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Say goodbye to Randy Moss … perhaps the best wide receiver ever.
