Albert Pujols is the best baseball player in the world. On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman got the 2,000th hit of his Hall of Fame career as the Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs by a final count of 9-2.

Pujols finished the game 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. For his career, the 31-year-old now has 2,000 hits, 431 homers, 1,294 RBIs and 1,250 runs.

“I think it’s pretty special to have my son come in here with a couple of bottles of water and spray it all over me. It’s something he’ll remember hopefully for the rest of his life,” said Pujols on how he celebrated his big hit.

A free agent after this season, Pujols is arguably having the worst season of his career. Even so, he’s numbers are still better than 95% of big leaguers: .278 batting average with 23 homers and 64 RBIs.

Could Albert Pujols get 3,000 hits. If he stays on this pace, he would reach 3,000 hits by 2016. Not bad for a power hitter.
