The Texas Rangers weren’t happy with their bullpen a few days ago. You can go ahead and scratch that concern. Yesterday, the Rangers traded for Koji Uehara. Today, the Rangers traded for Mike Adams of the San Diego Padres.

Koji Uehara and Mike Adams are two of the best relief pitchers in the game of baseball. The Rangers went from having a weak bullpen to having one of the best bullpens in all of baseball.

Mike Adams, a Texas native who was born in Corpus Christi and went to Texas A&M-Kingsville, has a 1.13 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 48 innings. He’s given up only 26 hits all season. Over the last three years, he’s never had an ERA higher than 1.76.

With Koji Uehara, Mike Adams, Darren Oliver and Neftali Feliz, the Rangers will be murder late in games.

In the Mike Adams trade, the Padres got Joe Wieland and Robbie Erlin — both pitchers in the minor leagues. Both players have a chance to be really good. In fact, Wieland just threw a no-hitter in the minor leagues … and was just one walk away from a perfect game.
