After getting out of prison, Plaxico Burress was looking for a new home. On Sunday, he found it. The New York Jets have signed Plaxico Burress to a one-year contract worth $3,017,000. If healthy and dedicated, the tall and talented wide receiver will likely start for the Jets.
Going to the Jets is a good move by Plaxico Burress. New York is a winning team that needed help at wide receiver. Though they were able to re-sign Santonio Holmes, the Jets didn’t have much WR depth after him.
For the Jets, signing Plaxico Burress helps dull the pain of losing out of Nnamdi Asomugha. It also signals that they are unlikely to re-sign wide receiver Braylon Edwards.
Since Plaxico Burress is only signing a one-year contract, there isn’t much risk in it for the Jets. But if he is able to regain is former level of play, the Plaxico Burress signing can pay off with a huge reward.
