The Milwaukee Brewers have been hit by the injury bug as of late. In an attempt to plug some holes, the Brewers traded for Jerry Hairston Jr. In return, the Washington Nationals will receive Erik Komatsu, an outfielder in the minor leagues.
Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez are both injured for Milwaukee. Though Hairston is far from a great player, he’s the ultimate utility player. He can play each outfield position and can play anywhere in the infield other than catcher. Until the Brewers return to health, Hairston will likely see a lot of action.
On the season, Hairston is hitting .268 with four homers and 24 RBIs. Since the All-Star break, the 35-year-old is hitting .353 — a trend the Brewers undoubtedly would like to see continue.
The Brewers currently lead the NL Central by 1.5 games over the St. Louis Cardinals and 2.5 games over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
