Is Coach K a Cheater?

Mike Krzyzewski has the reputation of an honest coach — perhaps the most honest coach in all of college basketball. However, Duke is looking into whether Coach K cheated earlier this summer. Coach K’s alleged cheating involves Alex Poythress, a much sought after recruit out of Tennessee.

According to Poythress, Coach K offered him a scholarship to Duke during an AAU tournament. If that is indeed true, Coach K would have committed an NCAA violation. College coaches aren’t allowed to offer scholarships during summer tournament play.

If Duke finds that Coach K is indeed a cheater, it’ll be interesting to see how they punish him. Coach K has done so much for the program that it’ll be difficult to do more than slap him on the wrist. However, if the NCAA gets involved, the story could rapidly change.
