Ervin Santana of the Los Angeles Angels struggled for much of the early part of the season. Lately, the native of the Dominican Republic has turned it around. On Wednesday, his turnaround was given an exclamation point when Ervin Santana threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians in a game in which the Angels won by a final count of 3-1.

After an error in the first inning, the Indians were then able to eventually score on a wild pitch. That was the only success they had all game. From then on, Santana kept Cleveland off balance. He walked only one batter and needed only 105 pitches to toss the third no-hitter of the 2011 baseball season.

Coming into this game, Santana had never beaten the Indians. What a way to change that stat! On the season, he’s now 6-8 with a 3.47 ERA. In the month of July, he has a 2.20 ERA in four starts. The Angels, who trail the Texas Rangers by two games in the AL West, need Santana to keep pitching this well if they have a chance of making the postseason.
