The Seattle Seahawks love signing former members of the Minnesota Vikings. On Thursday, the Seahawks made a big splash by signing wide receiver Sidney Rice to a $41 million deal. The 6-foot-4 athlete gives Seattle a deep threat with a very high ceiling.
Sidney Rice proved his talent in the 2009 NFL season when he totaled 1,312 receiving yards to go along with eight touchdowns. Last season, Rice struggled with a hip injury and had only 280 yards and two touchdowns. That said, his showed flashes of his talent and at only 25 years old, his future appears to be bright.
The Seahawks, however, are undoubtedly taking a risk. Sidney Rice had microfracture surgery on his hip. Whenever the word “microfracture” is connected with a player, that should send up red flags. Additionally, Sidney Rice was great in 2009 but hasn’t done much in the other three years of his NFL career.
As for the Vikings, they continue to rebuild their offensive attack. Losing Sidney Rice leaves a need for a legit starting wide receiver to emerge from their receiving corps.
