While this move wasn’t unexpected in the least, the Tennessee Titans made it official on Tuesday by releasing quarterback Vince Young. Once viewed as the future of the franchise, Vince Young has fallen on tough times on and off the football field.
To replace Vince Young at quarterback, the Titans have signed veteran Matt Hasselbeck. As we reported yesterday, Matt Hasselbeck decided not to re-sign with the Seattle Seahawks and started talking to teams around the league. In Tennessee, Hasselbeck is expected to begin the 2011 NFL season as the starter.
As for Vince Young, he’s going to have a lot of trouble finding a starting gig. Last season, though he didn’t play poorly stat-wise, he reportedly had trouble running the offense and remembering plays. He also clashed with coaches and teammates.
Look for a team like the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans or perhaps even the Dallas Cowboys to give him a chance … but in a backup role.
